Due to St. Peter’s being used for an event, there will be no practice for our group on Thursday 6th December.
There WILL BE a practice as usual this week at 7:30pm on Thursday 29th November.
Practices will continue as normal over the festive period unless notified otherwise.

Melissa Boyle from ‘BH Living’, popped up the never-ending stairs, as a visitor to St. Peter’s practice evening. Melissa enjoyed herself so much, she decided to feature it in one of her articles and blog! I was rather horrified myself, as live footage of the Michelin Man himself (me),gradually honed into the view 😦 (Link below)
BH Living – Article on bell ringing at St. Peter’s
Dear St. Peter’s Thursday night ringers,
Due to a concert being held within the church, there will be no practice at St. Peter’s Bournemouth, on Thursday 4th October 2018 at 7:30pm.
The following Thursday (11th October), Tim Kettle will be away, but practice night will still go ahead. Please let the tower secretary, Romy, know whether or not you are able to attend.

At the moment only 2 of us have said they can definitely be at the practice, with several more definite absences – so a viable practice is not possible. Therefore tomorrow’s practice is cancelled – enjoy your night off!
On 15 February the tower AGM will be held at 8.30pm so the practice will be shorter than usual – but all members of the group are welcome to come to the meeting.
Let’s see if we can manage to ring 8 again this week! We all enjoy it so much when we can.
When our rounds get more consistently good we can try some call changes.
We’ll continue with plain hunt on 5 (but with the objective of 7 in sight).
And we can improve our call changes on 6 further – how about entering a striking contest this year?
…..and there’s always dodging and place making and the standing challenge (but it’s difficult to beat 16/8), so maybe backstroke as well this week…..
Hope to see you on Thursday
Due to various holiday plans, there will be a break in the Basic Bellringing practices for September. They will restart on Thursday 28th September
It is intended, as soon as possible, to open these practice nights to visitors (novice and expert), but we would like to find our feet first as a group so please await further news before you come and join us!
Communication within the band is via email: Visit the Email Group
The learners’ practice starts at St Peter’s on Thursday this week so the Monday Priory Practice is reverting to the normal starting time of 7.30pm
From Thursday 9th of March, there will be regular practice nights at St. Peter’s once again. The home band will be hosting the Learners’ group from Christchurch Priory, and plan to spend the next 6 months helping them to become competent Sunday Ringers.
The practices will be dedicated to ringing Rounds and Call Changes, with a focus on good striking, confident bell handling, and those small but important skills that are difficult to fit in on a conventional practice night, such as ringing up and down in peal.
The limited scope of the practices means it is an ideal opportunity for a new Ringing Master to find their feet and so Rosalind Martin from Christchurch will be taking this role, supported by Tim Kettle who is Tower Captain at St. Peter’s.
It is intended, as soon as possible, to open these practice nights to visitors (novice and expert), but we would like to find our feet first as a group so please await further news before you come and join us! Meanwhile we will be drawing on helpers from Bournemouth Sacred Heart and the Priory to make sure that the band is consistently strong and able to help the novices to learn the planned skills, and to enable the home band to take holidays!!
We hope that in this way both towers will be strengthened, by enabling a new generation of ringers to learn the necessary skills.
The Monday Evening practice at the Priory will be continue to be focussed on methods (Plain Hunt onwards) and visitors are of course welcome at any time to come and work on their method ringing skills with us there.
