Wednesday practice night will resume on the 1st Wednesday in October.
The general practice run by Roger at Hawkley last Saturday was another great success, and was going so well that it was extended by a good twenty minutes.
My quick headcount came to 24 ringers of varying abilities, from learners happily ringing call changes to the more experienced who were doing Cambridge Major, with plenty of plain hunt and triples methods in between. No one was left out as Roger made sure that everyone had the chance to have a go at whatever they felt the need to work on. Bob Triples in my case, preparing for my first quarter peal on eight bells on July 9th.
Penny Rehbein from Alton was determined to understand what happens in plain hunt, and spent a lot of time watching what others were doing. Then she stood behind Di Hart while she was ringing the treble and they counted places together. I’m pretty sure I saw a light bulb ping on above Penny’s head, so I look forward to seeing her progress next time she comes to visit us at Blackmoor.
Gordon Strachan is one of our learners at Blackmoor, and this was the first general practice that he had been to. His comment this morning was that “it was pretty full on” but, judging by the smile on his face, he’ll be eager to attend many more.
Thanks Roger and everyone else who was there, it was a superb evening.
Ringing from rounds upwards, so everyone is welcome at the District General Practice at Hawkley on Saturday July 1st from 5.30 – 7.00pm.
A note to say that practices will be back at Hawkley on a Wednesday from 7.30-9.00pm from June 28th.
Starting this week, Selborne’s Thursday practices have been postponed until further notice as they will be hosting the Hawkley practice on Wednesday evenings 7.30 – 9.00pm instead, due to work going on at Hawkley Church.
Anyone who would like to join them will be very welcome.
There is work going on at Hawkley Church at present, so their practice has moved to Selborne from Wednesday 17th May (7.30 – 9.00pm) until further notice.
Roger is grateful to Nick for arranging this, and Nick has confirmed that there will not be a Thursday practice at Selborne for the duration.
Both Roger and Nick say that everyone is welcome to join them.
It’s worth noting that Selborne is a ground floor ring, which is great for anyone who finds spiral stairs a bit of a trial.
The ringers at Alton, St.Lawrence are very pleased to announce that, although the scaffolding may still be up, there is no longer an RSJ through the bell chamber and that practices will start again on Thursday 30th March at 7.30pm. They would love to see you if you would like to join them.
Wednesday practices are also resuming at Hawkley from 7.45pm, but Roger Barber suggests that you contact him beforehand if you’re thinking of going, just to be on the safe side.
archSaturday 8th April – 5.30 to 7.00pm
Roger says he’s had lots of interest in this practice, and hopes to be able to ring Yorkshire and Lincolnshire as well as Cambridge.
My Cambridge needs working on, so I look forward to seeing you there.
