“Firsts Fortnight” at Petersfield

We had a very successful “Firsts Fortnight” here at Petersfield.

We set SMART targets for everyone who wanted to participate and made sure there were opportunities to have a go.  It was really motivating!

S – Specific

M – Measurable

A – Achievable

R – Relevant

T – Time-bound

Here’s what we achieved:–

Caroline learned how to jump in one change from Queen’s – to Rounds – to Tittums – and back again.

Christine joined in ‘firing’ for the first time.

John rang a successful Mexican Wave.

Madeline rang Erin Doubles.

Mary rang a touch of Stedman Triples.

Melanie called touches of Grandsire Doubles.

Mike (our loyal regular visitor from Steep) rang a touch of Stedman Triples.

Moo conquered ‘anti cat’s ears’ in Stedman Doubles.

Sue rang down in peal.

Robin rang Bob Doubles starting from a different bell (not his usual 2).

We would like to thank all the people who helped to make this scheme work for us, especially our regular visitor-helpers Mike and Terry, and all the extra ringers who came to the special extra Grandsire/Stedman practice organised by Moo.

Firsts Fortnight – Help Needed – Thurs 10th March at Petersfield

Firsts Fortnight 1st - 15th March 2016Dear ringers

As you know, it is officially the fortnight for firsts and I need your help!

One of our ringers and a regular visitor and friend of St Peter’s want to ring triples methods, and we don’t have the expertise in our band at the moment to help them reach their goal.

I am therefore hoping to hold a special ringing session (with kind permission from our vicar) at Petersfield on Thursday 10th March, sometime between 6pm and 8pm, specifically on Grandsire and Stedman Triples. So, if you are a confident ringer of these methods, or a steady treble or tenor ringer, please please write back (the form is below) and let me know if you can help.

I apologize if my plan clashes with your regular practice night, choices were limited!

Thank you in advance
Moo (Michelle Day)

News from St.Peter’s, Petersfield

We held our AGM on Monday 11th January, chaired by our vicar The Revd. Canon Will Hughes.  Madeline King was elected Captain for the coming year. We have lost 8 ringers during the past year, due to ill health, house-moves and family matters, so now have only 12 members of the Band, including one who cannot ring at present and one novice.  However – often with help from our friends in neighbouring towers – we have managed to fulfil nearly all our commitments to ring regularly for services and for weddings and other special occasions.

We hold regular teaching sessions before our main practice every week and are hoping to get some new learners this year to build the band up. Our new Junior who started the last week of September is just beginning to ring with us, which is very satisfying. We have asked any ‘dormant’ bell ringers in the congregation if they would like to join us to ring on Sunday mornings to boost our numbers.

Firsts Fortnight 1st - 15th March 2016After the work on the clappers last year the bells are now going very smoothly and our ringing continues to be enjoyable and challenging. We intend to take part in the “Firsts Fortnight” in March and have asked each ringer to decide on an achievable target to aim for.  We are hoping to go on an outing to Whitechapel Bell Foundry later in the year, and also to arrange a ringing outing suitable for our capabilities.

On Saturday 16th January we hosted the Alton & Petersfield ADM.  There was good ringing in the afternoon, followed by a lovely service conducted by Will, which included the Bell Ringers’ hymn and the Guild Collect.  Will is a good friend to us and a great supporter of bell ringing – we know we are very lucky.  The Tea was as delicious as usual on these occasions, followed by the business meeting and more enjoyable ringing in the evening.

Come and visit us! We practice on Monday evenings 7.30-9.00pm.
