If the tower you are interested in is not listed below please get in touch to find out their Christmas Plans…

Around 50% of towers nationally could do with extra ringers over Christmas, and many people go away from home at this time. Make it easier for visitors to the Guild to come and ring with you this Christmas, by posting your ringing times on the website.

Join in the Christmas Ringing Survey

It takes on average 1 minute and 54 seconds to complete this survey for one tower. The first 1000 towers who respond will be included in the analysis… if you want to be part of it, whether you rang on Christmas Day and want to shout about it, or the bells weren’t rung, but wish they could be next year, then click here.

Closing date Wednesday 6th January 2016. Results will be published here a couple of weeks later.

Two Newly Trained Bournemouth Ringers ring for Christmas!

A huge congratulations to everyone who helped with the Christmas Ringing this year, In total we have covered 8 services between us. A special mention must be made to Teresa (Sacred Heart learner) who rang for her first service on Christmas Eve and Fran who managed to ring for 3 of the Christmas Services.

Do not forget there is no ringing practices in Bournemouth this week.

There will be ringing at Sacred Heart on NEW YEARS DAY at 11.30AM for a 12 noon service.

Sunday 3rd Jan, will see everything return to normal.

Enjoy your week off and Happy New Year.

Peal Attempt -Yorkshire Maximus at Winchester Cathedral New Year’s Day 11am

If you’d like to hear some cracking ringing AND be inspired….

Winchester Cathedral has kindly offered their bells to our Guild for a peal on New Year’s Day once again so, if you’re in the area or wanting somewhere specific to go on the day, the peal should get underway at approximately 11 a.m and if all goes well it will continue until well after 2pm.

Method chosen – Yorkshire Surprise Maximus. (This  method will make use of 12 of the Cathedral’s ring of 14 Bells. Yorkshire Maximus is a very musical method, not routinely rung because of its complexity and the number of skilled ringers and bells required).

Apparently an Ice Rink will still be in situ in the vicinity so great fun could be had there, as well, but bear in mind parking might be challenging!

My personal thanks to Roy Le Marechal, Edd Colliss and Bruce Purvis for helping me get the peal organised.

Christmas Greetings from Viv Nobbs (Guild Master)

Dear Friends,
As we approach the wonderful festival of Christmas, please accept my sincere thanks and congratulations for all the magnificent work that you are doing for ringing and your fellow ringers. There is much evidence of sterling efforts made and great results achieved right across our Guild, whether it’s in the tower or in a District or Guild capacity.

We’ve had numerous special occasions to ring for during 2015 – many joyous ones and some sad ones as well. All have given us a great chance to come together as a team of friends to offer up our time and skills for a greater good.

We will have challenges on our journey, of course – that is life and gives us the ideal opportunity to take a step back and reflect. Frustrations can build up, tempers flare and, if we’re not very careful, we can lose sight of the most important aspect of the whole situation.

Many of our greetings cards will wish “Peace and Joy at Christmas” – often it’s in our own hands…so please let’s deal with all ringing matters with compassion, meekness and patience, considering others’ points of view and trying very hard to “Take the sting out of the tail” of any potentially negative situation. I’ll go so far as to say that for those of us who declare Christian witness, the onus is on us to develop new perspectives, consider growing and changing more and to maybe see things differently sometimes? We are all “Works in progress”!

I’m pleased to pass on from Bishop Christopher of Portsmouth and his wife, Sally, their best wishes to us all for Peace at Christmas.

Hope to see you at District Annual Meetings soon. Meanwhile, have a great ringing Christmas and then take a well-earned rest – but not for too long!

Merry Christmas everyone and a very Happy New Year!

Love to all,
Viv
