Winchester Ringing Practice 17th August 2022 by the Alton and Petersfield Ringers

The St Peter’s Church Petersfield Bell Ringers and members of the Alton and Petersfield District ringers, fifty ringers in all,  by kind invitation from the Winchester Cathedral ringers, hosts Colin and Steven,  held a practice evening at Winchester Cathedral last Wednesday 17th August.

The evening started with ringers ascending to the Belfry to see the fourteen bells.   Jessica Hornsby, the Alton and Petersfield  assistant ringing master organised the evenings ringing of rounds and call changes,  some of the young ringers age just fourteen and fifteen ringing the 35 hundred weight tenor bell.  The more experienced ringers ringing complicated methods of Grandsire Cinques.

All attending felt it was a great privilege to ring at the Cathedral and  it is hoped that the event can be repeated next year.
