Update of Guild WW1 Centenary Commemoration Project

Please see details at www.wpbells.org/ww1/

ALL ringers, including new ones, can participate!

We invite you to ring in a special performance and for it to be recorded in the archive.  It would be wonderful to have all our Guild’s towers included.

You might well have seen the WW1 Newsletter issued to towers recently.

Our working group met recently and now has 9 members:
Mike Winterbourne, Pete Jordan, Heather Frazer, Ros Brandwood,
Rachel Anderson, Viv Nobbs, John Stock, Steve Lutener and Mike Novell.

We need another volunteer – another researcher would be great so, if you feel you could offer your skills and enthusiasm, please contact me for more information.

The dates of the two special Cathedrals in 2019 will be posted on the website once confirmed. They will be great occasions of thanksgiving and fellowship!

The archive being created uses existing ringing records; they will be in two printed volumes and in digital format. We wish to make them very accessible.

700 performances have been harvested to date; the archive in its current form (ringers’ names will be included later) can be seen at  wpbells.org/ww1performances

After 30th November 2018 we will need your help with checking your records for accuracy where possible but if you notice anything amiss now, please tell us.

The Executive Committee has formally recommended to allocate £1,000 towards the estimated costs of approximately £2,900, including the costs of receptions at the cathedral services. Members will have the opportunity to cast their vote at the A.G.M. on 16th June 2018.

We are encouraging fund-raising right across the Guild.  Please be creative and raise funds to support our project.  Two donations to date:
– the Isle of Wight District £ 114
– St.  Michael’s, Basingstoke Ringers £100.  Thank you all!

Fund-raising:

–  Raffle at the A.G.M.
–  Relay Event to take place between now and November.
The relay event will raise the profile of ringing in our communities – a good benefit to support local ringing. Details to follow.

Our project sits very well with the Ringing Remembers recruitment campaign
a100.cccbr.org.uk/
and we should see tangible benefits locally.

Thank you everyone.  Please contact me if you’d like more information.
