Mike Winterbourne Writes about the WW1 Project

With the approach of the anniversary of the ending of one of the most destructive episodes in our history, it is with pride that we commemorate those who were lost or wounded.

Ringing to commemorate individuals or events is important to keep in mind the sacrifices made by the men and women involved in the conflicts and the impact on families.

At this anniversary, the Winchester and Portsmouth Guild of Church Bell Ringers have a team recording past ringing to be held in perpetuity in suitable volumes being presented at special services in our two main Cathedrals.

If you know of any ringing commemorating individuals or events from WW1 in the past tower records or currently being planned, could you please let our team know to try and ensure an accurate record for posterity.

Thank you

Mike Winterbourne
Master of the Winchester and Portsmouth Guild
