I regret to have to tell you that Mervyn Bray died over Christmas. He was tower captain at Bitterne Park for several years, a member of the Royal Naval Guild and regularly supported his local towers (Netley, Shedfield etc) when in better health.
His funeral will take place at 4pm on Friday 26th January 2018 at Wessex Vale Crematorium, Bubb Lane, West End, Southampton. SO30 2HL.
Kind regards,
Allison Joiner
Mervyn was my first husband and father of my children, Philip ( sadly deceased 2008) and Pauline. We met through ringing when he came to Alverstoke, where I learned to ring, in around 1953/4, and married in 1958. Ringing was always an important part of our lives and we would go to meetings all over the Guild area, or anywhere else within reach, on Saturday afternoons and often organised our own outings.
We moved to Tavistock, Devon, in 1962. I still live very close to where we lived then, and still ring at Tavistock and other local towers. Our children learned to ring too, as did our grandson Peter. Philip rang in a number of peals, mostly in the Cambridge area.
Mervyn and I did not have a lot of contact in recent years, except suring Philil’s Illness, but always retained a friendly feeling towards each other. I shall attend his funeral with our family and share many happy memories.
Mervyn was my Dad. At the funeral there will be a collection in his memory and the money will go to the Netley bell fund.
Dear Donna & Pauline, I am David Mervyns cousin. I have just seen this

Hi David
My Dad spoke of you often but unfortunately I had no contact details to be able to let you know of his passing.
