Today, Sunday, 20th August, 2017, will go down in Isle of Wight history as the day Brighstone rang it’s first peal on 8 bells. Also rang by an all Isle of Wight band so congratulations all round to Brighstone ringers.

Now recorded in The Ringing World for the first time the band were as follows:

Winchester & Portsmouth Diocesan Guild
Brighstone, Isle of Wight
St Mary the Virgin
Sunday, 20 August 2017 in 2h37 (7–1–15 in B♭)
5040 Grandsire Triples
Composed by A J Pitman
1 Rachel J Ruszczyk
2 Caroline J C May
3 Kieran Downer
4 Margaret E Downer
5 Stephen P Noyes (C)
6 Beccy Noyes
7 Revd Barry M Downer
8 Dan Ruszczyk
First on 8: 1, 2, 8
First on the bells since augmentation, on the last major change ringing project from Whitechapel.
This is also unique by the fact this was one of the final project’s completed by Whitechapel Bell Foundry at its London site before closing the premises recently.
I understand the air conditioning is not yet in place at Brighstone’s ringing chamber so fans were used, but unfortunately Dan trod on one of the leads part-way through and pulled the lead from its socket, thereby raising the temperature for all involved!
I’m sure departure to the local pub for a celebratory drink quickly followed the completion of the peal.
