The annual Chale Show takes place this weekend (August 5th/6th) and most bell ringers on the Island are helping to man the gates issuing tickets and taking money over Saturday and Sunday.
As a consequence many towers will NOT be ringing for services on Sunday although Newchurch plan to I understand.
This is a charity event of which The Society for the Preservation of Isle of Wight Church Bells makes a considerable amount of money to fund its work in looking after our towers and bells.
Margaret Downer has organised a rota to keep things running smoothly but would like a few more volunteers to help out between 10am – 1pm or 1pm – 4.30pm on both days. If you feel you can spare a couple of hours just turn up and ask Margaret and she will give you a job! Alternatively contact me via the usual means and I will put you in touch with her.
Those of you who have done this previously know it’s hard work but we do end up having a bit of fun along the way so please think about joining us if you haven’t already done so.
This event also brings our bell ringing to prominence with the general public with the opportunity to recruit being given by Kieran Downer and his team with the mini tower on hand for visitors to try their hand at ringing.
If you aren’t able to help then think about visiting the show and supporting this event, I’m sure you won’t regret it with so much to see and things going on.
Entry to the Show field is from the Military Road on the left heading to Freshwater from Chale.
