On Saturday 19th March, the Portsmouth District held two training days; Plain Bob at Purbrook and Grandsire at Catherington. I attended the Grandsire day along with my fellow learners Allan Yalden, Debbie Bown and Andrew Wilkinson. The course was run by Doug Boniface, ably assisted by a team of helpers. The day began with coffee and biscuits kindly provided by Marie Boniface, then a short theory session before proceeding to the tower to begin the practical part of the morning. The first session concentrated on ringing plain courses of Grandsire from the different working bells. Then after a short coffee break and some more theory, it was back to the tower for some practice at ringing touches. By the end of the morning my shoulders were aching, I had a blister on my hand and my brain was hurting, but I had successfully navigated my way through a touch of Grandsire. A very successful morning. Many thanks to Doug and his team for giving their time and expertise yesterday to help us learners.
